This brief argues that the 2014 Egyptian constitution has left many issues to be decided upon by the country's legislators, including relations between religion and state, military trials of civilians, and the independence of the Constitutional Court. However, it also says that this lack of a conclusive decision on these constitutional points might not be as harmful as expected by some, as it could foster the engagement of ordinary politics in these matters and enable greater representation.
