This paper overviews the civil war in South Sudan, which began in December 2013. In doing so, it looks at the wider financial and economic impact of the conflict, and at the involvement of other countries both at the local and regional levels. Finally, the paper offers recommendations to the UN Security Council, the UN Mission in South Sudan and the warring parties on how they might address the deteriorating political, security and humanitarian situation within the country.
