This paper focuses on the problem of urban armed violence and what might be done about it. More specifically, it 1) highlights the particularities of urban armed violence and the detrimental impact it has on development, 2) examines the interrelated risks facing cities, including inequality, firearms proliferation, and inadequate governance, 3) proposes an agenda for cooperation between the Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development and city governments around the world, and 4) outlines concrete steps for more effective armed violence reduction and prevention strategies in urban areas.
