This paper presents an analysis how Italy's civil security system deals with the crises which periodically affect the country. First, the authors explore cultural and historical aspects of the civil security system. They then describe the legal and constitutional characteristics as well as the relations between the civil security system and Italian citizens. Finally, they look at the role of the private sector in maintaining civil security and assess the efficiency and legitimacy of the Italian civil security system.
