This paper features specific steps the US should take to 1) breathe new life into its policies centered on the South China Sea area, and 2) enhance its economic and security interests in Asia. In doing so, the paper highlights four different ways US officials can contribute to the region's long-term peace and stability, including unveiling targeted proposals at the next iterations of the Shangri-La Dialogue, the G-7 Summit, the US-China Strategic Security Dialogue and the ASEAN Regional Forum.
