This publication surveys the range of 'weapons intervention' approaches that are available to help prevent and reduce armed violence. It is important to remember, however, that these varying options are apparently not equal -- i.e., stand-alone arms control initiatives are not as effective in minimizing violence as more holistic approaches, which integrate weapons control and disarmament efforts together with broader development strategies.
