This brief examines the problems now facing Zimbabwe, including its growing instability, economic decline, endemic corruption, and tensions over ruling party succession. It concludes that although the country does have the capacity to reform itself, it won't happen without 1) coherent government policies, 2) some semblance of political accountability, and 3) greater clarity on the leadership succession plans of the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF).
