This brief examines the proliferation of firearms in the Western Balkans and how it is impacting the area's security. More specifically, it describes 1) the cultural and historical factors that have facilitated the spread of firearms, arms trafficking and organized crime in the region, and 2) the results of a household survey on firearms possession and local patterns of armed violence.
