This report discusses the role of women in senior military and private sector positions. After providing a background on women in the workforce throughout the last fifty years in the military and private sectors, the authors compare the career challenges and opportunities they face there. They argue that women in both sectors share a number of challenges that need to be addressed, notably related to retention and promotion, parenthood and family, compensation, mentorship as well as career advancement.
