This report explores the role nuclear weapons and escalation control might play in the US' latest offset strategy, which seeks to preserve and extend Washington's power projection capabilities in the face of increased military competition around the world. The report concludes that the Pentagon isn't particularly clear-headed about the functions nuclear weapons could perform in future war scenarios, especially in those cases where US adversaries have nuclear arsenals of their own.
