This paper examines the development of autonomous weapons systems and the debates they've raised about the absence of human control in war. More specifically, the paper explores 1) the definitional issues surrounding autonomous weapons, 2) how they've been used thus far and how they'll be used in the future, and 3) how autonomy-enhancing technologies differ from the 'normal' ones presently being used.
