This report analyzes the challenges facing Bolivia since the election of Evo Morales as president in December 2005. The authors suggest that his win significantly altered the political landscape of the country. The report maintains that Morales' political success, which is crucial for stability and peace in Bolivia, depends on international support of his policies of nationalization of key economic sectors, constitutional reform, regional autonomy, and drug and development policy. As the European Union has access to all key players, the report attaches importance to the support of the EU for democratic change and institutional stability.
