This paper examines Kazakhstan's relationship with Russia, following the latter's foreign policy interventions in Ukraine in 2014/2015. Looking at Kazakhstan's economy, ethnic divisions and politics, the authors argue that without reform measures the country risks becoming another brittle post-Soviet state vulnerable to external destabilization by Moscow.
