This brief reviews the recent political status of Sudan's Darfur region, which remains mired in conflicts between and among communities, armed groups and militias. The brief's author concludes that parallel peace processes between as many armed groups and communities as possible are the only way to reduce and disarm the area's militias and paramilitaries, and to link national with local solutions.
