This brief examines the major maritime challenges that the US and Taiwan will face over the medium term and how the two countries might cope with them. More specifically, the brief's author 1) examines the geopolitical situation in Asia, the current health of China-Taiwan relations, and the state of maritime security in the East and South China Seas; 2) provides a framework for enhanced maritime cooperation between Washington and Taipei; and 3) considers the risks such cooperation could pose for US-Chinese relations.
