Following the successful conclusion of the negotiations between the P5+1 countries and Iran on the latter's nuclear program in July 2015, this paper discusses whether the US and its allies should treat the deal as an isolated arms control arrangement with an enemy or as a vehicle for attempting further cooperation with the Islamic Republic. In doing so, the author looks at 1) the effect which the deal is likely to have on Iran's foreign policy; 2) the effect which further engagement with Iran could have on the wider instability in the Middle East, particularly in Iraq and Syria; and 3) sets out elements of a strategy which the US and its allies can use to further engage with Iran.
