This issue of the CAD features three articles on how norms, beliefs and concepts of identity shape foreign policy in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. The first article discusses how Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan has publicly portrayed Turkey and Azerbaijan since 2008 and what impact his discourse has had on the Armenian people's view of the two countries. The second article then analyzes the symbiotic relationship between Azerbaijan's foreign policy and national identity. Finally, the third article focuses on the Georgian government's decision to opt for both a European identity and foreign policy and how this choice has raised the ire of the Georgian Orthodox Church (GOC), which fears 1) losing its privileged religious status, and 2) the undermining of the country's traditional values.
