This issue of the RAD includes four articles that review Gazprom's current status and the challenges it faces in its most important energy markets, both at home and abroad. The first article analyzes the energy giant's position in the Russian domestic gas market, particularly in the wake of legislative changes that are designed to promote competition from independent gas producers. The second article then focuses on the post-Soviet space. It concludes that although Gazprom is losing ground in Moldova and Lithuania, it still holds a stable position in Belarus and Armenia. The third piece examines the impact of the European Commission’s antitrust inquiry into Gazprom's practices and its role in the EU energy market. Finally, the fourth article examines the competition between Gazprom and Russia's Rosneft Oil Company and the challenges they both face in exporting to Asian gas markets.
