This brief looks at the violence committed against women in India and the research that's been done on the phenomenon. Indeed, the research has been 1) comparative (how violence against women in India compares to other countries, 2) statistical (for example, the number of rapes which occur in the country), and 3) procedural (the lack of recording and reporting of violent crimes against women). The brief's authors also focus on the problems of female infanticide, dowry-related violence and honor killings, and what the Indian government can do to challenge those practices and norms that subjugate women and encourage misogyny.
