This report examines how over the last five years the US Marine Corps (USMC) has successfully restructured itself from an amphibious assault force into a crisis response force-in-readiness. In particular, the text’s authors show how redefining its mission set permitted the USMC to 1) remain relevant beyond Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, and 2) ride out its budget woes more effectively than the US’ other military services.
