This report reviews the elections that took place in Myanmar in November 2015, including their results. After describing the conduct of the elections, which were peaceful and executed generally well, the text’s author then outlines their national, regional and state-level consequences. Finally, he evaluates the impact of the elections on Myanmar's old elite, the country’s military, and its jostling ethnic groups. Based on all the available data, the author ultimately forecasts a long transition towards democratic practices and an “uncomfortable cohabitation” in near-term governance.
