This paper 1) reviews the historical linkages between oil and security in Sudan and South Sudan; 2) identifies the key actors in the countries' oil sectors; and 3) assesses the current economic, political and security situations within and between the two violence-scarred states (as of mid-2015). Finally, the text’s author looks at the similarities and differences between the Sudanese and South Sudanese oil ministries’ approaches to human security.
