This text features four articles that focus on the external relations of Italy and the EU. More specifically, the articles zero in on 1) the possible disintegration of the European community; 2) the asymmetric leadership role the US plays within the EU and its member states; 3) the need for a radical rethinking of the EU’s policies towards the Mediterranean region, which represents an opportunity rather than a fragmented and complex mosaic of crises and instability; and 4) the consequences of Italian foreign and defense policies that stress “realist multilateralism.”
