In the wake of China's deployment of surface-to-air missile launchers (SAMs) to the Woody Islands in the South China Sea, this report examines the short-, medium-, and long-range anti-access/area denial threats posed to US aircraft carriers and their air wings. As the text's author sees it, US carriers will not be able to act with impunity in future Asia-Pacific conflicts.
