This brief highlights the difficulties associated with transporting, safeguarding and using small arms and light weapons in peace operations. More specifically, the brief's author describes 1) the types of weapons and ammunition that are typically used in these operations; 2) the policies, mechanisms and practices that are used to deploy, stockpile and manage the weapons; and 3) the struggles to implement established procedures.
