In order to gauge the effectiveness of online radicalization, this brief looks at how Buhan Muzaffar Wani, the now dead Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander for South Kashmir, used social media to fuel his rise to power and radicalize an unprecedented number of followers. In the last case, the text’s author analyzes 1) Wani’s target audience; 2) the violent protests that followed his death; and 3) Pakistan’s prolonged connections to the separatist movement in Kashmir.
