This briefing analyzes the violence that erupted in the DRC shortly before the results of the presidential elections in August 2006 were announced. In order to secure the second round on 29 October 2006, the authors suggest following a three-pronged strategy. Policy priorities are improving security in Kinshasa, promoting a climate of constructive criticism and resolving basic problems in the electoral process.
