This report touts the benefits of a flourishing aerospace industry for a nation’s global competitiveness. The potential advantages include 1) an orbital surveillance and reconnaissance capability; 2) the opportunity to access abundant natural resources in space; 3) the promise of broader economic growth and technological innovation; and 4) the prestige of having a successful space program. All these pluses, however, depend heavily on having a viable space-launch industry.
