This report describes the background to the military conflict between the government and the separatist Tamil group, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in Sri Lanka. It further outlines the successive stages of the peace process, the military conflict and the present state of play, identifying the major problems that have plagued the peace process so far.
