This report addresses the complexities of Iran's domestic political situation. It states that the notion of a clear-cut battle pitting conservatives against reformers is not justified by the reality. The paper outlines the makeup of Iran's political structure with a focus on religion, revolution and reform, and explores the relationship between conservatism and reform. Furthermore, the paper provides information on intellectual and Islamic dissent, on domestic politics and policy and reviews splits over foreign policy. The paper argues that the situation in Iran is one of great fluidity with complex connections between the inhomogeneous conservatives and reformers.
