This paper evaluates the policy of Iraq’s post-invasion Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) with respect to Iraq’s military and security structures. The paper focuses on the CPA’s decision to disband the Iraqi military and assesses its implications for the countries future. Furthermore, the paper provides information on the background of the Iraqi military, on detailed steps of Coalition policy and introduces views from the former military regarding its disbandment. Subsequently, the paper assesses what the pros and cons are in terms of Iraqi security.
