This report addresses Turkey’s stance on the Kurdish issue in Northern Iraq after the US-led invasion of Iraq, and focuses on the situation in and around the city of Kirkuk in Northern Iraq where various ethnic groups clash. The paper introduces the crisis in Kirkuk, outlines the development of Turkish opinion and suggests ways out of the crisis. The paper argues that Turkey needs good relations with the Kurds to prevent chaos in Northern Iraq and that the evolving Kurdish entity might depend on Turkey’s protection.
