This report provides an introduction to state and development of the Republic of Macedonia; it examines current conditions in the republic and offers recommendations that address the most pressing problems. The paper addresses Macedonia’s regional relations with its neighboring countries, the bleak economic conditions and international involvement since 1991. Further attention is given to inter-ethnic relations, governmental paralysis and arms transfers between Macedonia and Albania. The paper calls for caution to prevent the escalation of narrowly defined conflicts to a broad inter-ethnic disputes.
