This report addresses the Kosovo war of 1999, summarizes the situation throughout the Balkans and examines the difficult choices facing Western politicians. The paper reviews the developments on the ground in Kosovo, discusses the situation in Montenegro and Sandzak as possible future hot spots and asks what Yugoslavia might look like after the conflict. Furthermore, the paper explores the crisis’ repercussions for Albania, Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The paper argues that a permanent solution for Serbia and Montenegro as a whole is a prerequisite for stability in the region.
