This report examines the development and future of the Trepca Company which runs and exploits a vast mining complex in Northern Kosovo before the background of the Kosovo war and the region’s uncertain future. The paper introduces the structure of Trepca as well as claimants and questions of ownership. Subsequently, the paper outlines the different views on Trepca’s future including the positions of UNMIK, the Kosovar Albanian leadership and the Serbs' view and discusses regional implications. The paper calls for a rapid takeover of Trepca by UNMIK and KFOR.
