This study provides deeper background on four of the paradigmatic jihads identified by Abu Musa'b al-Suri, a veteran jihadi thinker, propagandist and historian. These four paradigmatic jihads comprise the following: the experience of the Harakat al-Shabiba in Morocco (1969), the experience of the Harakat al-Dawla al-Islamiyya in Algeria (1982 – 1987), the experience of the Afghani Arabs in Lebanon under Abu'A'isha al Lubnani, and the experience of the Islamic Army of Aden Abyan in Yemen during the 1990s.
