This report addresses the unstable security situation in Macedonia and explores ways in which the international community might assist the country. The paper reviews the security deficit with a focus on lagging capabilities and conflicting perceptions. Subsequently, the paper reviews basic tenets for the international mission that is to support further stabilization and reform in Macedonia and discusses a possible Europeanization of this mission. The paper argues that further progress depends on intensive cooperation between NATO, the US and the EU.
