This report addresses the final status of the Bosnian Brcko District. The paper discusses the importance of the Brcko District, reviews its history and outlines the negotiations that led to the district’s present status. Subsequently, the paper elaborates on several problematic issues that hampered the district's post-war development, including issues of supervision, of establishing the district and of unifying it. Furthermore, the paper asks whether the district can serve as a model for other areas and which resistance had to be overcome in its development.
