This briefing analyzes the political situation in Macedonia after the death of President Boris Trajkovski in February 2004. It examines the on-going devolution process in the country and the weak political party system. It also points to economic challenges, mainly the high unemployment rate and the labor markets. The briefing states that the government has not solved the political and economic problems of the country so far and has failed to guarantee the rule of law, and to pursue the responsible for shady privatization.
