This briefing analyzes the political and economic situation in Central Asia. It assesses the role of political elites, the rule of law and human rights, corruption and public administration. The paper also considers questions of trade and regional cooperation, and the lack of foreign investment and potential water conflicts in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
