This briefing examines the return to violence in Nepal. It presents the background of the collapse of the ceasefire and peace talks between the government and Maoist insurgents in Nepal. It also outlines the changed strategy of the Maoists, attacking on more fronts and in a more diffuse fashion. The briefing also assesses the role of the political parties in the conflict and their position toward peace efforts. It concludes by stating that the differences between government, Maoists and political parties are bridgeable.
