This briefing examines marginalized conflict regions in Sudan. It concentrates on the contested areas of Abyei, the Nuba Mountains and Southern Blue Nile. It describes the background of these conflicts and the state of the 'three area talks.' It concludes by stating that a solution to these conflicts is necessary given the escalating violence in Darfur and the need to develop models for resolving conflict across the country without unraveling the progress already made in the conflict in the South.
