This report assesses the strengths and vulnerabilities of the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), the military regime ruling in Burma/Myanmar. It gives an overview of the political, military and economic situation in the country. Despite its considerable strength, the regime has vulnerabilities with the most important being overextension of the armed forces. The report argues that the more the military’s reach extends in areas previously controlled by ethnic insurgents, the more vulnerable the regime will become.
