This report analyzes the role of civil society in Burma/Myanmar. It gives an overview of civil society development in the country and of the regime control of civil society since 1988. The report presents key actors of civil society, such as political parties, religious groups, NGOs and the media. It then examines the role of civil society in restoring democracy. The report states that civil society has had a very limited share in the political process in Burma/Myanmar.
