This report examines the exploitation and management of natural resources in Indonesia. It concentrates on the illegal resource industry, by looking at illegal logging and mining, particularly in Central and South Kalimantan, as well as the state's response to it. Although some gains against the illegal industry have been made, the vast geographical scale, the complexity of illegal resource extraction and the complicity in illegal activities of many officials and legislators, impede major state success against the illegal extraction.
