This report analyzes the political situation in Turkmenistan. It points to five sources of conflict that could lead to Turkmenistan's disintegration: the underground political struggle within the country, economic problems, weakness of the state, poverty, unemployment, the collapse of the health and education system, and the clan and ethnic divide. The report concludes by stating that in the long term there will be only improvement if the Turkmen President Niyazov leaves office.
