This report analyzes the ceasefire of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) with government forces of January 2003 and the starting peace negotiations. It examines the context of the conflict, the demands of the different stakeholders, and the perspectives for renewed party politics in the country. The report argues that issues such as the monarchy’s role, control of the army, demobilization of Maoist fighters, restoration of democracy, formation of a possible constituent assembly and establishment of an interim government will be central to the negotiations.
