This report analyzes the Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist organization's structure and regional impact. Based in Indonesia, the organization is active and dangerous although more than 200 men linked or suspected of links to it are in custody there. The report gives an overview of the network in Indonesia and Afghanistan. It states that Jemaah Islamiyah is a bigger organization than commonly thought, with a depth of leadership that gives it a regenerative capacity. It has communication with and has received funding from al-Qaida, but it is independent and takes most, if not all operational decisions locally.
