This report looks at the different domestic and foreign players involved in the war for power in Congo that started in August 1998. The paper tries to understand why these players became involved, whether or not they have the means to remain involved and what they hope to get out of their involvement. The paper introduces the parties involved on the Congolese side, including the groups that form the rebel movement and the forces at the government’s disposal. Subsequently, the paper addresses the involvement of foreign and neighboring participants in the conflict.
