This report examines the state of Algeria’s economy ten years after the start of the country's civil war. The paper analyzes the economic bases of both the military and the Islamists; discusses the failure of Algeria’s state capitalist system; reviews the macroeconomic and microeconomic situation; and addresses the causes behind the underlying crisis. It also outlines the development of the parallel economy and the state’s lack of influence and reform. The paper argues that Algeria is being plundered by the same parties that struggle for power.
